Types Of Electric Components.

Electronics components

Electronics components are use to manipulate electricity,store data inform of electrons,convert electrons potential energy to mechanical energy e.t.c.They are the building block of simple and complex electronics.

      In our previous topics we learnt about Types of electric current and their sources of electric current
So in this tutorial we shall learn about electronics components types and applications.

Electronics components are classified into passive and active components.

Passive components;
 don't require a separate power source to power them to do their specified task example are;
1.Resistors
2.capacitors
3.inductors
4.transistors
5.diodes
6.switches.
7.Transformer

Active components;
They requires an external power source to perform their specified task they includes e.g Integrated circuits,LCD


So let's begin one by one.
Resistors: is an electric device
Which is made of a resistive material use for resisting current and voltage in a circuit.
For example a resistor can be made to resist a 20v battery voltage to 5v. Their resistance is measured in ohms and their resistance value is usually written in prefix like 220k ohms,100 ohms and 560k ohms e.t.c.
Resistors are used mostly all electronics circuit like rectifiers,inverters and wireless chargers e.t.c.
2.capacitors: 
They are electric components consisting of two metal plates separated by a dielectric.
They use for storing voltage, filltering direct current from rectified AC , making tank circuit, reducing Sparks and delaying current etc.
Their capacitance is measured in farad and can be calculated from the codes written on them.  Capacitors capacitors values are usually written in prefix for example;
300uf,1000uf,2.2pf e.t.c.
3.inductors: are insulated conductors wound on a core or air which produces magnetic field when current flows through it.
 It is use for storing electricity in form of magnetic energy, filltering currents and also for delaying sudden change in current.
4.Transistors: they are made from semiconductors materials. Transistors are use for stepping up,regulating voltage and switching on and of current with high frequency.etc.
5.diodes: are used for blocking and allowing current to move in only one directions,they are use for making rectification circuits and many more.

6.transformer: are electric components that consists of an insulated coil wrapped around a soft iron core.
They are use for stepping up or down only AC voltage in circuits with the principle of electromagnetic induction. Read full notes on transformers

7.switches: use for breaking on and off voltage in a circuit.
They are use in calculators, power banks, phone power on and off buttons e.t.c
8.Integerated circuits:
they are made from semiconductor materials.
They are simply a bulky  circuit that  is compressed into a chip,they consists of resistors, diode and transistors e.t.c. 
ICs are use to perform complex like arithmetic and logic calculations,storing data, production of radio frequency for wireless communications and controlling applications etc. 
An example of common IC is 555 timer.
